Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP)

A Spousal Open Work Permit allows spouses and common-law partners of international students or skilled workers in Canada to work full-time for any employer. This pathway helps families stay together and allows spouses to gain valuable Canadian work experience while supporting their partner’s journey.

Application Process

  • Gather relationships and supporting documents.
  • Submit an online application with biometrics and forms.
  • IRCC reviews eligibility and may request additional documents.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must provide:

  • Marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship (12 months of cohabitation).
  • Valid passport and status documents.
  • Proof that your spouse is a full-time student or skilled worker.

Who Can Apply?
